June Moehr - European Impression

June MoehrJune Moehr's oil painting of the Victoria Arms Hotel in Yorkshire, which sold some of the best imported beer.

MANSFIELD artist June Moehr began painting after returning from England in 1986, and she uses a seemingly never-ending source of photographs and vivid memories as her inspiration.
She dabbles in painting landscape and has a fascination with buildings, many of which she visited on her travels throughout Yorkshire and the Netherlands.
Never having any formal artistic training, June is self-taught and thrives solely on her desire to paint her travels.
"I paint because of the therapeutic value of painting and you just lose yourself in your work," she said. "The Victoria Arms Hotel in Yorkshire stood out when my husband Peter and I were driving past it, so we stopped and found out it sold Melbourne Bitter, so I knew I had to paint it. "I like to paint images of my travels and hang them on the wall at home, as they spark my memories of places I've visited."
June and Peter have lived on Monkey Gully Road for eight years and June said the magical views are among the best she has seen.
"People ask why haven't you painted these local views, and my reply is I can look out there whenever I want and see them first hand," she said
