Kieren Perkins launches Victorian Interschools SnowSports Championships at Mt Buller & NapoleonPLAZA entertains the crowd on Monday 21st August
2006

Kieren Perkins with NapoleonPLAZA band members, Mallory Darragh, Alyce Livingston, Caithlyn Smethurst and Claire PirieThe Victorian Interschools SnowSports Championships were officially launched on Monday night by Olympic Gold Medalist, Kieren Perkins in spectacular fashion with hundreds of people crowding into the Village Square at Mt Buller. Local band NapoleonPLAZA delighted the crowd with their selection of upbeat covers as a shower of fireworks rained overhead.
Alyce Livingston, Mallory Darragh, Caitlyn Smethurst and Claire Pirie formed Napoleon Plaza only 3 months ago but have already played a number of gigs on Mt Buller and in the greater Mansfield area since. The girls, all in
year 11 at Mansfield Secondary College, delight in performing to local crowds and are developing a repertoire of great music. The band had a warm up gig the night before dazzling patrons at the Mt Buller Chalet.
Guitarist, Alyce Livingston swapped her guitar for skis when she competed in some of the ski events at the Championships and bass player Claire Pirie competed in the snowboarding events.
Kieren Perkins encouraged competitors to enjoy the week and have some fun. The event, first staged in 1958 at Mt Buller last year attracted more than 6,800 entries from more than 120 schools making it the largest event of its kind in the southern hemisphere.
The Alpine Giant Slalom, Snowboard Giant Slalom, Boardercross, Skiercross, Moguls, Cross Country Classical, and Cross Country Freestyle Relay make up a huge calendar of events.
