ANNEMARIE SHARRY – Workshop conducted
by Melbourne based vocalist and director of “South of
the River Gospel Choir”.
Her experience in a cappella began whilst studying Jazz Improvisation
at the Victorian College of the Arts, where she now tutors.
Annemarie has since held many vocal workshops, directed various
community choirs and sings with award winning a cappella and
percussion ensemble “AKASA”
The workshop will include basic voice technique, warm ups,
vocal games, and the chance to learn new repertoire with members
of South of the River Choir, and a chance to perform later
that day at the concert!
This
is an opportunity not to be missed!!

South
of the River ‘Live’ In Concert
with special guest performance by ‘Mansfield
Young Strings’

Saturday 19th
April, 3pm till 5pm
South of the River is a community choir celebrating
diversity and harmony through a shared passion for singing.
Under the direction of Annemarie Sharry, the choir explores
the music and rhythms of Africa, traditional African American
gospel and original Australian compositions.
Since forming in 2002 the 40 voice acappella
ensemble has inspired audiences with their lively performances
at a diverse range of music festivals and venues throughout
Victoria, including Apollo Bay, St Kilda and Queenscliff,
Melbourne Town Hall, Crown Casino's Grand Palladium Ballroom,
Federation Square and The Royal Melbourne Show.
Following their success as State Finalists
of the ABC Classic FM National Choir of the Year Competition,
South of the River are heading to Mansfield to perform In
Concert at the Mansfield Performing Arts Centre on Saturday
the 19th of April between 3 and 5pm.
At this event audiences can expect to be treated
to spine tingling and toe curling renditions of some of the
choirs favourite songs from their self titled debut album,
featuring spirited soloists and the amazing harmonies and
rhythms of Africa, traditional gospel and world music.
There will also be a very special guest appearance
by Mansfield ensemble ‘Mansfield Young Strings’.

Good
Vibes Concert for Liam Bradley

It's
great to see that Liam Bradley, one of Mansfield's most
loved musicians, is out of hospital after an illness and
making a good recovery. This fundraising concert is to show
Liam and his family how much we care.
Liam has been giving this community his good vibes for years
and we'd like to give him some back. Power to you Liam!!

An
important message for Koori Artists
Andrea
James is the Koorie Heritage Trust’s new Community
Arts Worker. Andrea is a Yorta Yorta/Gunai woman and the
granddaughter of Rupert James and Patricia James (nee Pepper).
This is a newly identified position which seeks to:
RUN ARTS PROJECTS & WORKSHOPS In consultation
with communities and artists, run Koorie artists workshops
and projects in regional Victorian communities and at The
Trust (such as traditional Victorian fibre crafts - weaving,
feather flowermaking, possum skin armbands - digital media,
sculpture/installation, performance art workshops and arts
business).
NETWORK AND SUPPORT Promote communication,
networking and coordination within the Koorie arts industry
at a regional and statewide level. A two day statewide Koorie
artists meeting will be held at The Trust in December 2008.
ADVOCATE Provide information, support,
advocacy and referral on arts law issues, arts business
matters and other arts issues relevant to Koorie artists
and organizations in Melbourne and regional Victoria.
MAKE ART AND CULTURE Encourage Koorie artists
and organizations to make and exhibit art, culture and events
at the Koorie Heritage Trust.
Established
in 1985, the Koorie Heritage Trust was created to protect,
preserve and promote the heritage and culture of the Indigenous
people of south-eastern Australia (Victoria). The Trust
cares for a diverse range of artefacts, artworks, crafts,
oral histories, books, manuscripts, historical material
and photographs and houses four gallery spaces, a permanent
interactive exhibition that teaches about our history and
culture and a retail shop. The Trust provides a range of
programs and services to the Koorie community and the general
public including arts workshops, educational programs, accredited
training, a service to assist community members trace their
family history and an extensive research library dating
back to the 1800’s.
