Mt Buller Art Prize & Exhibition Easter 2007

Open to the public from 10am – 4pm on Easter Saturday, 12pm – 4pm Sunday, and from 10am - 12pm on the Monday.

This Easter, Mt Buller again hosts the industry renowned Easter Art Prize and Exhibition. Now in its sixth year, the art competition is offering one of the largest cash prizes in the state - $47,000, which will be presented by the Honourable Lynne Kosky MP Minister for Transport and Minister for Arts.

The exhibition will feature inspiring works from over sixty artists that depict this year’s theme of ‘Nature, Environment, High Country and Altitude’. Involved artists include members of Melbourne’s Roar Group, Mark Schaller, Judi Singleton and Sarah Faulkiner, as well as regular Mt Buller favourites Reg Cox, Paul Margocsy and Anton Costantino.

Well known Melbourne artist Jeff Makin will judge the painting section of the exhibition, with $25,000 offered for first prize and $5,000 for second. The sculpture section, which features in the exhibition for the first time this year, will be judged by sculptor Andrew Rogers. The winning sculpture will be awarded $15,000. Mt Buller Resort Management will acquire the winning artworks to add to its collection.

A People’s Choice award (non-acquisitive) valued at $2,000 will also be awarded to one artist across both competition categories.

Minister Lynne Kosky MP will officially open the Exhibition on Good Friday at an invitation only event.
The sculpture exhibition will be displayed in the Saleyard area in the Village Square (opposite Cattlemans Café) and the painting exhibition can be viewed on level 3 of the Mt Buller Chalet Hotel. All works will be available for purchase.
Complementing the Mt Buller Easter Art Show and Exhibition will be two smaller exhibitions – ‘Art @ Apres’ in the Chalet Hotel and ‘Beautiful, fresh, young art’ hosted by the Ski Club of Victoria.

Across the Arts 2007 - "Footprints: Exploring Our Land" 3 - 6 May 2007

2007 Across the Arts Forum, a unique event in Victoria where successful artists share their skills and insights with Goulburn and North East practitioners over four stimulating and creatively charged days.
For all information:
www.acrossthearts.com

This year the forum will feature local Mansfield artist Ann Ferguson who will present a ceramic workshop. Ann is one of 13 artists delivering workshops and presentations during the four day Forum.

Participants will explore this theme in a wide range of artforms with a view to producing a group exhibition later in the year at the new combined GOTAFE and Wangaratta community library.

Over the Forum’s four days, the GOTAFE Wangaratta campus is transformed into a hub of activity with all workshops and events focused on the one site. This creates the best environment for cross-disciplinary exchange and networking, which is one of the great benefits of the forum.

A panel is selected to debate the Forum theme, providing vibrant discussion and an exchange of ideas and knowledge to inform the creative workshops. For "Footprints: Exploring Our Land", environmental and cultural workers will join visiting artists to investigate the land’s historical use, current state and its future. The focus of the Forum intends to highlight the state of our land with an indigenous perspective on its history, along with a scientific and agricultural perspective on its current and future condition. The land theme will form the basis for activities across artforms.

Additional events include an Across the Arts Forum official opening at the Rural City of Wangaratta's Exhibitions Gallery, lunchtime entertainment as well as an evening concert that features visiting musicians.

Four Across the Arts Forums have been held to date, each building on the success of the previous. GANEAA wants to retain this momentum both for the region’s arts community and the wider community, which reaps the benefits of a more informed and engaged arts network. For 2007, GANEAA intends to highlight the state of our land with an indigenous perspective on its history, along with a scientific and agricultural perspective on its current and future condition. The land theme will form the basis for activities across artforms.
